Maryborough, QLD

A bronze statue of Mary Poppins stands on the corner of Kent and Richmond streets, honoring Maryborough's connection to the beloved nanny. Born Helen Lyndon Goff in 1899, P.L. Travers, the author of the Mary Poppins series, spent her early years in this building, where her father was the bank manager. Unveiled in 2005, the statue is Australia's significant tribute to Travers' literary legacy. The annual Mary Poppins Festival in the Park celebrates this unique link each September.
