Located in a beautifully restored 1879 heritage-listed building in Maryborough's Portside district, the Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum showcases over 7,000 items of military and colonial memorabilia. Highlights include a Victoria Cross awarded to Lieutenant Herbert James for gallantry at Gallipoli, and the only Cross of Valour on public display in Australia. The museum also features uniforms, historic vehicles, scale models, murals, wood sculptures, and a 2,000-book research library. Operated by over 100 volunteers, it offers a testament to the courage and determination of those who shaped Maryborough's history.
