Yallourn North Open Cut, located in Victoria's Latrobe Valley, is a historic brown coal mining site that has been integral to the region's energy production since the 1920s. The mine has produced over 1 billion tonnes of brown coal, supplying approximately 22% of Victoria's electricity needs. Adjacent to the mine, the Old Brown Coal Mine Museum offers an extensive display of memorabilia depicting the early days of the town and open cut, both known as Brown Coal Mine prior to 1947. Visitors can explore fascinating photographic displays, paintings, clothing, homewares, tools, and medals from the original township. The museum is open on Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. The surrounding area provides picturesque views over Lake Narracan, the Latrobe Valley, and the impressive Yallourn W Power Station.
