Wirraminna, SA

Wirraminna is a 4-hectare public park in South Australia's remote 5719 postcode, featuring a large dam, wetlands, natural woodlands, and native gardens. Established in 1995, it serves as a model for local Landcare projects aimed at restoring native vegetation and wetlands. The park is home to rare native shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses, attracting wildlife such as native bees, frogs, skinks, various bird species, possums, and the threatened Squirrel Glider. Visitors can explore the gardens and learn about the local environment through extensive interpretative signage. The Discovery Centre, constructed in 2005, offers educational resources and displays, including an aquarium of native fish and exhibits on endangered Southern Corroboree frogs. The park is open daily, with the Discovery Centre accessible by appointment.
