Rich in history, it was named for the white clay exposed during the 1850s gold rush. The Bendigo Creek, the site of the area's first gold find, runs through White Hills. The suburb is home to the Bendigo Botanic Gardens, established in 1857, and the Bendigo Jockey Club, which hosts the annual Bendigo Cup. Weeroona College Bendigo, a co-educational secondary school, is also situated here.
