Welaregang is a rural community in the far southeast of the Riverina, approximately 11 kilometers southwest of Tooma and 15 kilometers southeast of Ournie. Situated on the Ournie to Tooma road, a dirt track, it lies just 3 kilometers from the Murray River, marking the border with Victoria. The area is named after the parish of Welaregang, with the nearby Welaregang Station sharing the name. The community features a golf club seamlessly integrated into the surrounding landscape. Historically, during the period when the Tooma District was considered for the national capital of Australia, the area around the village reserve at Welaregang was identified as a potential site for the city.
