The oval features facilities for cricket, football, and athletics, and underwent significant modernization by the Inverell Shire Council between 2016 and 2017. A prominent metal archway bearing the name 'Varley Oval' spans the entrance, and a memorial plaque honors Brigadier Varley's distinguished service in both World Wars. The venue hosts various sporting events and community activities, including Little Athletics sessions on Friday nights from October to March.
