Tooms Lake, situated approximately 83 km north of Hobart, is a picturesque artificial lake renowned for its recreational fishing opportunities. The lake is stocked with brown and rainbow trout, offering anglers a chance to catch fish averaging 1 to 1.5 kg, with some reaching up to 2.5 kg. Fishing methods include wet and dry fly fishing, trolling, lure casting, and set rod bait fishing. The surrounding campground provides a rustic bush camping experience, featuring designated sites, a composting toilet, and a boat ramp for easy access to the water. Visitors can also enjoy the Tooms Lake Circuit, a 20 km mountain bike trail that encircles the lake, offering scenic views and a moderate challenge for cyclists. Access to the area is via Tooms Lake Road, a gravel route that may be challenging after heavy rain. Please note that facilities are basic, and visitors should be self-sufficient during their stay.
