The Western Herald

The Western Herald, established in 1887, is Bourke's only locally published newspaper, serving the community for over 135 years. Published weekly on Thursdays, it covers news, sports, and events from Bourke and surrounding districts, including Barringun, Brewarrina, Byrock, Enngonia, Fords Bridge, Hungerford, Louth, Wanaaring, Walgett, and Lightning Ridge. The newspaper is locally owned and editorially independent, with a readership extending beyond the region, including subscribers in Coolabah, Nyngan, Dubbo, Sydney, and other locations throughout New South Wales and interstate.
