Established on July 4, 1992, Walcha Telecottage is Australia's first Telecentre, offering essential technological services to the Walcha community and surrounding areas. As a not-for-profit organization, it provides a range of services, including the free weekly community newspaper, The Apsley Advocate, delivered to all households in Walcha and district. Additionally, it offers high-quality full-color printing, secretarial services such as desktop publishing, faxing, photocopying, binding, and laminating, as well as internet access and computer hire. The Telecottage also serves as an authorized agent for Services Australia, assisting with Medicare, Centrelink, and Child Support services. Operating without government funding, it relies on community support to continue its vital services.
