Originally designed as a chapel by architect Henry Bastow, it was repurposed into a cinema before being acquired by the Hobart Repertory Theatre Society in 1938. The theatre now boasts a seating capacity of 230, offering an intimate atmosphere for a diverse range of live performances, including classic dramas, comedies, and musicals. Managed by dedicated volunteers, The Playhouse Theatre continues to be a cherished cultural hub in Hobart.
