The Lock-Up, located at 90 Hunter Street in Newcastle, is a reimagined 19th-century police station now serving as a contemporary art space. Established in 1861, it operated as a police station until 1982. The building features a purpose-built gallery, rare heritage-listed cells, and an event space in the former exercise yard. Its Artist in Residence program offers accommodation and workspaces for artists across various disciplines. The Lock-Up's padded cell is recognized as one of the best-preserved in Australia.
