The Ian Potter Southbank Centre, located at 43 Sturt Street, Southbank VIC 3006, serves as the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music's new home. Designed by John Wardle Architects and opened in 2019, this eight-level facility features a 400-seat Hansen Dyer Hall and a 200-seat Kenneth Myer Auditorium. The building's façade, adorned with 66,000 handmade ceramic tiles arranged in patterns reminiscent of musical notation, invites interaction and reflects its musical heritage. Strategically placed windows, including a six-meter-diameter oculus, offer glimpses into rehearsal spaces, fostering a connection between musicians and the public. The centre's design emphasizes acoustic excellence, with box-in-box construction to ensure high-quality recording environments. Its open spaces and walkways seamlessly integrate with Melbourne's Arts Precinct, enhancing the city's cultural landscape.
