Nestled in Centennial Park's historic heart, the Column Garden features a nine-meter-high Corinthian sandstone column, originally part of the Australian Museum's William Street Wing. Erected in 1890, this column now supports the 'Sunset' statue, a life-sized female figure draped in a cloak. The garden, established around 1900, was initially a native flower garden with 661 species, all labeled for educational purposes. Today, it offers a picturesque setting with seasonal floral displays, making it a favored spot for relaxation and photography.
