
Taplan is a small town in South Australia's Murray Mallee region, near the Victorian border. Established in 1914, it was named by Henry George and is derived from the Aboriginal word for "grass tree." The town is situated approximately 294.91 km east of Adelaide, accessible via the Adelaide to Paringa railway line. As of the 2011 census, Taplan had a population of 114 residents. The former Taplan Post Office operated from 1914 until 1982.
