Established in 1847 by Archibald McMillan, it experienced growth in the mid-1870s with German and Scottish settlers. The township developed around a railway station in 1886, leading to its current name. Today, Sheep Hills is known for its rich agricultural heritage, including dryland cropping of lentils, canola, and cereals. The area also features a notable silo art installation, adding to its cultural appeal.
