Established in 1858, it was named after William Salter, who arrived in 1839 and operated a sheep station in the area. The town's school, which opened in 1867, closed in 1956. Today, Salter Springs is a tranquil rural locality, offering a peaceful environment amidst the picturesque landscapes of the Clare and Gilbert Valleys. Its proximity to nearby towns like Riverton and Owen provides access to essential services and amenities.
