St Andrews Beach, VIC

St Andrews Beach is a coastal village on the southern Mornington Peninsula, approximately 68 km south of Melbourne. Situated along the Bass Strait, it forms part of a 35 km continuous stretch of beach from Cape Schanck to Portsea. The area is renowned for its excellent surfing conditions, attracting surfers year-round. The beach is also a popular spot for beach fishing, with permanent rip holes against the reefs and gutters along the rocks creating a haven for fish. The settlement was first subdivided in 1959 and was originally marketed as "Capri Beach". In 1962, a golf course was constructed, and the subdivision was re-marketed as St. Andrews by the Sea. Over time, the area has evolved from small holiday homes to more substantial residences, reflecting its growing popularity. The name "St Andrews Beach" was officially adopted by the local council. The unique topography known as The Cups Country provides an ideal environment for golf courses, with options like the St Andrews Beach Club on Sandy Road. The beach is accessible via Paradise Drive, with parking available at the St Andrews Beach Car Park. Visitors are advised that the beach is not patrolled, and swimming is not recommended due to dangerous rips.
