Roy Grounds House

Designed by Sir Roy Grounds in 1953 as his personal residence, this architectural masterpiece showcases a harmonious blend of geometric precision and modernist aesthetics. The house features a square plan with a central circular courtyard, creating a serene and inward-focused living space. A broad flat roof with wide eaves floats above the solid brick walls, complemented by continuous highlight windows that invite natural light. The interior is characterized by radial walls that define distinct living areas while maintaining an open, flowing layout. Surrounding the main house are four flats, each with unique features such as angled carport walls and double-height main spaces, all oriented towards private courtyard gardens. This residence is celebrated as one of the most outstanding works of modernist domestic architecture in Victoria.
