
Roland is a tranquil rural locality in Tasmania's North West region, approximately 34 kilometers southwest of Devonport. Nestled within the Kentish local government area, it is bordered by the picturesque Lake Barrington to the northwest. The area is renowned for its natural beauty, with Mount Roland providing a stunning backdrop and offering well-marked bushwalks suitable for a day's exercise. The 2016 census recorded a population of 83 residents, reflecting its serene and close-knit community atmosphere. Roland's rich history includes its role as a former railhead, known as Staverton Railway from 1915, later renamed Dasher in 1917, and finally Roland in 1919, honoring Captain Rolland, an early explorer in the district. The locality was officially gazetted in 1965.
