Established in 1869, the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens span 33 hectares of meticulously landscaped grounds, making it one of Queensland's oldest public gardens. The gardens feature an extensive collection of tropical and subtropical plants, including palms, cycads, bromeliads, and native Australian flora. A serene Japanese Garden offers ornamental bridges and bonsai displays, reflecting traditional design principles. The state-of-the-art, all-abilities playground, reopened in 2023, features play pieces inspired by local wildlife, including a 4.6-meter-tall dingo play tower. The adjacent Rockhampton Zoo is home to over 60 native and exotic species, including chimpanzees, koalas, and kangaroos. Visitors can also enjoy the Gardens Tearooms, nestled under 150-year-old Banyan figs, offering a range of meals and refreshments. The gardens are open daily from 6 am to 6 pm, with free entry.
