Poruma Island, also known as Coconut Island, is a narrow coral cay approximately 1.4 kilometers long and 400 meters wide, situated 130 kilometers northeast of Thursday Island in the Torres Strait. Home to around 160 residents, the island is renowned for its pristine beaches, ancient palm trees, and vibrant birdlife. Visitors can explore sea turtle hatcheries, giant clam grounds, and World War II relics. The local community speaks the Kulkalgau Ya dialect of Kala Lagaw Ya, and the traditional owners are the Billy and Fauid families.
