Established in the 1850s by William Allitt, the Portland Botanic Gardens are among Australia's earliest botanic gardens. The gardens feature over 300 varieties of roses and 130 varieties of dahlias, with the dahlias blooming between early February and late April. Notable species include Cordyline australis, Wigandia caracasana, and Rhus viminalis. Visitors can enjoy picnics or barbecues amidst the rose gardens or native beds featuring indigenous species. The gardens are wheelchair accessible, dog-friendly on leashes, and open daily from sunrise to sunset.
