Port Bonython, located in South Australia's Upper Spencer Gulf region, is a significant industrial hub approximately 16 km east-northeast of Whyalla and 370 km northwest of Adelaide. Established in 1982, the 2.4-kilometer deepwater jetty facilitates the export of hydrocarbon products, including crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas, from the Moomba Basin. The facility is leased to Santos by the Government of South Australia. In 2016, Port Bonython Fuels commenced operations, enhancing the region's diesel storage and distribution capabilities. The area is also recognized for its proximity to the Upper Spencer Gulf Marine Park, a sanctuary for the Australian giant cuttlefish, making it a notable site for marine biodiversity.
