Pelaw Main is a tranquil hamlet in New South Wales' Hunter Region, approximately 9.2 square kilometers in size. Established in 1900, it was originally centered around the Pelaw Main Colliery, the area's first mine. The colliery ceased operations in 1962, but the community endures. As of the 2011 census, Pelaw Main had a population of 1,027 residents. The area is home to Pelaw Main Public School, a K-6 institution located on Abermain Street. The Richmond Vale Railway Museum, dedicated to preserving the region's railway and mining heritage, is also situated nearby.
