Established in 1984 as part of Victoria's 150th celebrations, the Ouyen Local History Resource Centre is housed in the former Ouyen Courthouse. It shares the building with the Mallee Genealogical Society. The centre's collection focuses on the southern part of the Rural City Council area and features approximately 2,500 black and white photographs. Additional materials include microfilm of early Ouyen newspapers from 1911, oral history recordings, maps, books, district records, and ephemera. The centre aims to make local history information accessible to everyone.
