Cape Portland, TAS

Musselroe Wind Farm, located at Cape Portland in Tasmania's north-east, is the state's largest wind farm, featuring 56 Vestas V90-3MW turbines with a total capacity of 168 MW. Operational since 2013, it generates enough electricity to power approximately 50,000 homes annually. The wind farm is situated within a 5,500-hectare agricultural property owned by Hydro Tasmania, encompassing coastal plains, lagoons, and dune systems. Adjacent to the wind farm, the Tebrakunna Visitor Centre offers informative displays about the wind farm, the traditional landowners, and the region's maritime and mining history. The centre provides spectacular views of Bass Strait and the wind farm. It is accessible from the road to Little Musselroe Bay on Cape Portland Road, located on the right just before the Little Musselroe Bay recreation area. The centre is a 25-minute drive from Gladstone. Parking and toilets are available. Guides are not provided at this site. Check the official website for opening times, as they vary throughout the year. From St Helens, the trip will take around one hour on the Ansons Bay, North Ansons Bay, and Browns Bridge roads. From Bridport, the trip will take around 40 minutes on the Waterhouse Road to Gladstone, then 25 minutes to the wind farm on the Cape Portland Road.
