Mushroom Reef Marine Sanctuary, located off Flinders Ocean Beach, is a family-friendly destination for marine exploration. At low tide, a vast mushroom-shaped platform emerges, with a line of cobbles forming its stalk and sections of reef branching out. This unique landscape creates sheltered bays and pools, fostering diverse marine life. Visitors can encounter species like the Black and White Sea Star, Saddled Wrasse, Magpie Morwong, Cowfish, and the Weedy Seadragon. The sanctuary also offers opportunities for beachcombing and birdwatching, with sightings of Pied Oystercatchers, Ruddy Turnstone, and migratory shorebirds. The best time to visit is around low tide, two hours on either side. Please note that collecting shells and marine life is prohibited to preserve the ecosystem.
