Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve, established in 1961, is Australia's second-oldest nature reserve, rich in Aboriginal heritage and natural beauty. Located 30 km north-east of Mudgee, it features striking sandstone pagoda formations best viewed from the lookout along the Castle Rocks walk. The reserve is home to 164 bird species, including the endangered regent honeyeater and emus. Visitors can enjoy picnicking and barbecuing at Moolarben picnic area, which offers facilities and access to the Castle Rocks walk. The area is also significant to the Wiradjuri people, who have inhabited it for over 12,000 years.
