Located 75 km south-west of Bundaberg, Queensland, the Mount Rawdon Gold Mine has been a significant contributor to Australia's gold production since 2001. Over its 25-year history, it has produced more than 56 tonnes of gold. In 2018, gold from the mine was used to create the Melbourne Cup trophy, highlighting its role in Australian culture. As mining operations conclude, plans are underway to repurpose the site into a renewable energy storage facility, aiming to power up to two million Queensland homes.
