Mon Repos, QLD

Mon Repos, located near Bundaberg in Queensland, is renowned for its significant turtle rookery, hosting the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland. From November to March, visitors can witness turtles nesting and hatchlings emerging during guided night tours. The area also features the Mon Repos Conservation Park, established to protect these nesting sites, and the Barolin Nature Reserve, home to diverse bird species. Historically, Mon Repos was the site of Bert Hinkler's first glider flights in 1912 and the landing point for Australia's first undersea telegraph cable in the 1890s.
