Nestled in the coastal suburb of Merewether, Merewether Carlton Rugby Club, affectionately known as "The Greens," stands as a cornerstone of Newcastle's rugby community. Established in 1930 through the merger of Cooks Hill Carlton and Cooks Hill Surf Club, the club boasts a rich history, including six First Grade Premierships between 1930 and 1940 and a total of nineteen First XV Grade Premierships, with the most recent in 2024. The club's home ground, Townson Oval, serves as the backdrop for its five senior teams, a colts team, and a women's side, fostering a vibrant and inclusive rugby environment.
