Lake Inverell, established in 1938, is a 6.6-hectare nature reserve located just 2 km from Inverell's CBD. This tranquil aquatic sanctuary offers a variety of recreational activities, including barbecues, bushwalking, bird watching, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The area is home to diverse wildlife, such as platypus, kangaroos, wallabies, and numerous bird species. Visitors can enjoy two walking tracks: the 3 km Lake Inverell Walk and the more challenging 6 km Barayamal Walk, which passes through Barayamal National Park. Dogs are permitted on a lead within the reserve but are not allowed in Barayamal National Park.
