Lake Hindmarsh Lake Reserve

Lake Hindmarsh, Victoria's largest natural freshwater lake, offers a tranquil retreat near Jeparit. Surrounded by ancient River Red Gums and nourished by the Wimmera River, the lake provides a serene environment for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can camp at Four-Mile Beach, which offers powered sites, flush toilets, showers, and a camp kitchen. Schulze's Beach and The Wattles provide more basic facilities, while bush camping is available at various locations around the lake. The area is a haven for birdwatching, with species like White-breasted Sea Eagles, swans, ducks, terns, spoonbills, and pelicans frequenting the lake when it's full. Water sports such as fishing, waterskiing, swimming, and canoeing are popular when the lake holds water. The lake is accessible via the Western Highway, approximately 380 km from Melbourne and 450 km from Adelaide, suitable for two-wheel drive vehicles.
