
Kunama is a rural locality in the South West Slopes of New South Wales, situated approximately 9 km west of Batlow at an elevation of 900 to 1,000 meters. Established in the 1850s, the area is renowned for its apple orchards, contributing to the region's agricultural heritage. The Kunama branch railway, completed in 1923, was an extension to the Tumut line, branching off at a junction close to Gilmore and was formally closed in 1957. The climate is characterized by cold, snowy winters and high rainfall, averaging nearly 1,600 mm annually.
