Kewell

Kewell is a rural locality in Victoria's Wimmera region, situated approximately 36 km northeast of Horsham. Established in 1845, it was named after a pastoral run along the Yarriambiack Creek. The name "Kewell" is believed to derive from an Aboriginal word describing the seeds of the Carpobrotus plant. In the late 19th century, Kewell East served as the village center, featuring a post office, two hotels, and two stores. Today, Kewell remains a quiet farming community, primarily engaged in wheat and sheep production. The area encompasses approximately 165.1 square kilometers and has a population of around 48 residents.
