Established in 1980, Hawthorn Community Gardens comprises two allotment-based locations in Hawthorn East and Hawthorn, offering a total of 86 garden plots. Membership fees range from $80 to $100 per annum, depending on plot size, and include access to gardening tools, water, and social gatherings. The gardens foster social interaction, nutritious food production, and resource conservation. They aim to involve everyone in the community, regardless of age or physical ability, and encourage members to donate excess produce to community pantries. Due to high demand, there is currently a substantial waiting list for both gardens.
