Goonyella Mine, located approximately 30 kilometers north of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin, is a significant open-cut coking coal mine. Established in 1971, it merged with the adjacent Riverside mine in 1989. The mine produces high-quality metallurgical coal, renowned for its excellent coking properties, and exports via the Goonyella railway line to Hay Point, serving global markets. In 2020, Goonyella Riverside produced enough metallurgical coal to build the Burj Khalifa 1,600 times.
