
Fossil Bluff, located in Wynyard, Tasmania, is a 275-million-year-old sandstone headland renowned for its rich fossil history. At low tide, the cliffs reveal numerous fossils embedded in the sandstone layers, including Australia's oldest marsupial fossil, Wynyardia bassiana. Visitors can explore the beach to discover a variety of shells and fossils. A short, steep walking track leads to the Fossil Bluff lookout, offering panoramic views of the coastline. The area is also home to diverse wildlife, including dolphins, whales, seals, and various bird species. Please note that collecting rocks, shells, and fossils is not permitted within the reserve.
