Established in 1912, Elwood Life Saving Club is the oldest lifesaving club on Port Phillip Bay, deeply embedded in Elwood's community. The club's mission is to provide a safe, positive environment for all members to develop the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill their potential while supporting lifesaving services for Elwood beach users. Volunteer lifesavers patrol the Elwood foreshore on weekends and public holidays from late November to April, ensuring the safety of beachgoers. The Nippers program offers children aged 5-13 vital water safety and surf skills, with sessions held each Sunday from November to February. Members participate in various competitions, including beach carnivals, inflatable rescue boat racing, and pool events, fostering both skill development and community engagement. The club also hosts regular social events and produces a newsletter to keep members informed and connected.
