Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, nestled within Melbourne's Arts Precinct, offers an intimate and acoustically exceptional setting for a diverse array of performances. Its design draws inspiration from traditional European concert halls, featuring a "shoebox" shape and walls lined with Australian Hoop Pine timber, enhancing the auditorium's acoustic intimacy. The hall comprises a raked stalls level, circle, distinctive split-level balconies, and a stepped platform ceiling, enriching the strength, clarity, and blending of instruments, as well as communication between ensemble players on stage. With a capacity of 1,000 seats, it is ideal for small and medium-sized ensembles, orchestras, solo artists, choral works, and spoken word performances. Named after the Centre’s Founding Patron Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE, the hall truly embodies a living space for making, sharing, and enjoying great music.
