Dawson Mine, situated in Queensland's Bowen Basin, is an open-cut metallurgical coal operation comprising three active pits: North, Central, and South. Established in 1961, it stands as one of Australia's oldest and largest metallurgical coal mines. The mine produces both metallurgical and thermal coal, utilizing mining methods such as truck and shovel, dragline, and highwall mining. Coal extracted is processed at the Dawson Coal Handling and Preparation Plant, the largest of its kind in Australia, before being transported to the Port of Gladstone for export. Anglo American holds a 51% stake in the mine, with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. owning the remaining 49%. The mine has a projected operational life extending to 2047.
