Situated within the Dorset local government area, it is accessible via Cuckoo Road, which connects to Route A3 (Tasman Highway) to the north. The area is characterized by its logging industry and is traversed by the Great Forester River along its north-western boundary. As of the 2016 census, Cuckoo had a population of 53 residents.
