Cowrie Point, TAS

Cowrie Point is a tranquil coastal locality in Tasmania's Circular Head region, approximately 26 kilometers east of Smithton. This serene area is characterized by its picturesque beaches, including Brickmakers Bay, which features a 250-meter-long north-facing beach bordered by low rocky points. The bay offers a reflective high tide beach fronted by a 150-200 meter wide low tide terrace, hemmed in by rocky points that converge to the center, leaving a 50-meter wide sandy gap at low tide. The area is backed by a narrow band of scrub, with a car park and small picnic and camping reserve at the western end of the beach and the highway immediately behind the eastern end. Cowrie Point is also home to several small beaches, such as Little Peggs Beach, a 550-meter-long north-northeast-facing beach with a 200-meter wide low tide terrace and bordered by low rocky points. The locality is accessible via the Bass Highway, which runs through from north-east to north-west. With a population of just 14 residents as of the 2016 census, Cowrie Point offers a peaceful retreat amidst Tasmania's natural beauty.
