Located at 117 Gaskill Street, adjacent to the Age of Fishes Museum, the Canowindra Historical Society & Museum showcases the town's evolution from its 1840s frontier origins to a thriving rural center. The museum's diverse collection includes horse-drawn vehicles, vintage farm machinery, textiles, household memorabilia, and an authentic slab hut and shearing shed, reflecting the pioneering spirit of early settlers. A notable feature is the extensive photograph archive, with images dating back over 140 years. While not a family history society, the museum holds comprehensive records on many local families dating back to the 1850s. Admission is free, with donations appreciated. Opening hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with other times available by appointment.
