The Bruny Island Waste & Recycling Centre, located at 231 Bruny Island Main Road, operates from 8 am to 3:30 pm on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day. The facility offers designated bins for recycling cardboard, glass, and a co-mingled collection for paper and plastics. Additional recyclable items accepted include car batteries, cooking oil, aluminium cans, and engine oil in drums up to 20 litres. General and green waste can be deposited in large bins, with green waste fees calculated by cubic metre, ensuring a maximum diameter of 300 mm. The centre does not accept asbestos, hazardous waste, household or farm chemicals, liquid waste, clinical waste, vehicles over 12 tonnes GVM or 5 cubic metres, compactor and skip bins, car bodies, construction and demolition waste, or clean fill. Recyclables are transported to the Cleanaway facility at Lutana for sorting and baling, while glass is sent to Hazell Brothers at HBMI Leslie Vale for crushing and reuse in road base material, bricks, and road construction.
