
Barringun is a remote locality in Queensland's Shire of Paroo, situated on the border with New South Wales. As of the 2021 census, it has a population of 17 residents. The area is characterized by vast grazing lands and is traversed by the Mitchell Highway, connecting Cunnamulla to Bourke. Notably, Barringun is home to the Zero Obelisk, marking the commencement of the first official survey of the Queensland–New South Wales border. The town's history includes the former border customs post of Wooroorooka, now abandoned. Today, Barringun offers a glimpse into Australia's outback heritage, with its expansive landscapes and historical landmarks.
