Apsley Gorge, nestled within Douglas-Apsley National Park on Tasmania's east coast, offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and adventure. The Apsley River has carved deep gorges and created stunning pools, including the popular Apsley Waterhole, a tranquil spot for swimming and relaxation. The Apsley Gorge Loop Track is a 6.3 km circuit that guides visitors through dry eucalypt forests, along the riverbanks, and into the heart of the gorge. This moderate to challenging hike provides scenic views, swimming opportunities, and a close connection to the park’s natural environment. The trail is best tackled during dry weather, as rainfall can make the river crossing more challenging and the rocks slippery. Summer and autumn are ideal seasons for this hike. Walkers should carry plenty of water, as there are no facilities for refilling along the route.
