Yarrabee Coal Mine, situated approximately 40 km north-east of Blackwater in Queensland's Bowen Basin, has been operational since 1994. The open-cut mine specializes in producing ultra-low volatile, semi-anthracite Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) coal and thermal coal. These products are primarily exported to steelmakers in Asia via the Port of Gladstone. Yarrabee employs nearly 500 full-time workers and maintains an extensive environmental monitoring program covering noise, air quality, blasting, and surface and groundwater quality. The mine is wholly owned by Yancoal Australia Limited.
