
RAAF Base Williamtown, situated 30 kilometers north of Newcastle in New South Wales, serves as Australia's premier fighter pilot training base and is home to the majority of the F-35A Joint Strike Fighters. The base hosts the command, operational, and support elements of Air Combat Group's tactical fighter force, operating F-35A Joint Strike Fighters, Hawk 127, and PC-21 aircraft. Additionally, it accommodates the Surveillance and Response Group's Air Surveillance and Battlefield Management command and support elements, along with the E-7A Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft. The base also houses elements of the Air Warfare Centre and several Combat Support Units. Newcastle Airport operates from RAAF Base Williamtown under a lease with Defence.
